Welcome to The Hawaii Island Contractors’ Association! We are a Non-Profit organization that has been around for over 50 years. We are comprised of over 150 licensed general contractors, subcontractors, lifetime, hall of fame, honorary and associate members. Among other things, we provide legislative advocacy, industry support and education to our members, scholarships for 2nd year college students in a construction related field, and opportunities for growth. ProVision Solar Inc. was incorporated as ProVision Technologies, Inc. in 1998 under Hawaiian Electric Industries to take advantage of the growing market for photovoltaic (PV). It was in 1893 that Peter Cushman Jones, a 60-year-old businessman, persuaded close friends Joseph Ballard Atherton and Charles Montague Cooke to join him in organizing a new bank in the Islands. Four years later on December 27, 1897, Bank of Hawaii became the first chartered and incorporated bank to do business in the Republic of Hawaii. The charter was issued by James A. King, Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Hawaii, and signed by Sanford Ballard Dole, president of the Republic. Bank of Hawaii operated its first office from a two-story wooden building in downtown Honolulu. Shaping Hawaii’s Economic Landscape Bank of Hawaii played an important role in Hawaii’s transition from a territory to a state, remaining at the forefront of expansion. During the 1960s and 1970s, Bank of Hawaii’s growth kept pace with that of the state which provided major support to local agriculture. Over the years, Hawaii’s service-based economy minimized abrupt changes in the local economy from recessionary periods, compared to states dependent upon manufacturing. Still, Bank of Hawaii saw the need to diversify its customer base beyond Hawaii to reduce vulnerabilities. We are a trucking company that serves the Island of Hawaii. We have (3) quarries in the Puna District containing cinders, sand & gravel products. Also, we run a dirt/soil quarry in Pepeekeo. Other services that we provide are water hauling, heavy equipment movement, green waste acceptance, and container hauling. History Established in 1977 My business experience began when I opened an automotive repair shop next door to the then Yamaguchi Service Station in Pahoa town. I eventually took over the Service Station and ran it until the early 1990’s. The business took another turn and started delivering cinders and gravel, and also land clearing. From there it expanded to (2) cinder quarries and (1) sand & gravel quarry in Puna and operating a dirt quarry in Pepeekeo. Meet the Business Owner: Sanford I. I’m a Pahoa resident that graduated from Pahoa High School. I attended National Schools in Los Angeles before returning to Pahoa to be an entrepreneur.
